Hyperlite Mountain Gear Camera Pod Overview
In this age of digital information its surprising to first read about a new piece of gear in a real life magazine before seeing any leaks images or announcements online. This is how I just found out about the Hyperlite Mountain Gear Camera Pod!
I went and checked my snail mail and stumbled on an awesome sales catalog from Hyperlite Mountain Gear!
But what was even more interesting when I opened it was the brand new Hyperlite Mountain Gear Camera Pod!
The description says:
Designed with the mirrorless camera form factor in mind, our new Camera Pod will help ensure your gear stays protected in the backcountry no matter how you choose to carry it.
Available in two sizes - one for Sony's A6000 Series and one for the A7 Series
Based off the pictures in the sales catalog it looks like its a dyneema carrying case for your camera with water resistant zippers and multiple tie out latch points along the case.
The Hyperlite Mountain Gear catalog also shows an image of what looks to be a hiker with the HMG Camera Pod strapped to his hip belt on the side.
The picture of the camera pod attached to the hip belt is not a close up so it's a little hard to see how he actually has it strapped on. It looks like its strapped over the hip belt pockets which is kind of interesting...
I am not sure I will attach it to my hipbelt of my HMG Southwest 4400 like the picture above, but I am still very interested in the Camera Pod. I have been looking for lightweight camera protection for my camera for awhile.
Backpacking and Hiking Camera Carry Competition
Currently While HIking I am a huge fan of the Peak Design Capture Clip Pro (Amazon Affiliate) which nothing on the market in my opinion can beat its combination of secure camera carry and quick access while hiking or backpacking.
The HMG Camera Pod looks like it has some nice weather protection and abrasion resistance that the Capture Clip does not provide though.
For camera weather protection in my day pack or while kayaking I currently use a Medium Nite Ize RunOff Waterproof Packing Cube (Amazon Affiliate):
The Medium Nite Ize RunOff has a waterproof zipper which gives it amazing protection in weather but does not have any padding which the HMG Camera Pod looks to have. I was able to add my own padding to the Nite Ize RunOff which I wrote about here. The Nite Ize only has two lashing points and I don't really use them based on their position.
The Hyperlite Mountain Gear Camera Pod looks to be an awesome protective Camera Pod that you can easily carry inside your pack or latch onto the outside of your pack in multiple configurations!
I cant wait to get my hands on the Camera Pod when it comes out! As of writing this article I am not able to find any links on the HMG Website to pre order.
