JoBo2018 I didn't know about it until you just mentioned it. I gave it a quick google and found its Kickstarter.
For those interested, it looks like PurTrek is a water filtration system for hikers that is built into your trekking poles:
I personally am a bit iffy about this idea, and I will not buy the Purtrek myself. A lot of Ultralight hikers which it seems to be trying to reach use trekking poles for their shelters. This is just my own speculation, but I feel like the PurTrek using the trekking pole handles as a pump device will sacrifice overall strength of the trekking pole and cold affect my shelter.
For example, If I had an HMG Tarp set up and I was using the PurTrek as support poles for my shelter in a storm, I would be worried if they snapped, that I would lose my water filtration device for the rest of the trip.
I am also a bit worried about keeping the filter running efficiently on a week-long trip while you use it every day. For example, other pump filters such as the MSR Guardian have a pre-filter at the tip to catch large debris from clogging up the main filter. Based on the video above the PurTrek does not have this. If you do not think this will be a problem, check out what happened to me while filtering water with the Grayl water purifier.
Lastly, I laughed out loud when I saw the soldier decked out in his Army Uniform using this device, the military does not use trekking poles.... and maybe the rules are different in the Marine Corps but a Marine would never ever go out hiking in his gear on his own...
